Where the river meets the sea

Or the Danube Delta. Today, I would like to share with you my experience about the magnificent natural reservation from Eastern Europe. Perhaps you have been there, but if you haven’t, I would highly recommend it to any nature lover out there.

Location:

The Danube Delta is located in Romania, more specifically SE of Romania, in Tulcea county. There are three different villages in the Delta where you can get housing and experience the unique wild landscape. From Tulcea’s harbour there are regular high speed boats taking you to the villages. I was in Sulina ( the last of them, also very close to the sea) a few years back, but this year I stayed at my boyfriend’s house in Tulcea. So if you go there, you can take a boat to visit the Delta, but also spend some relaxing time at the beach.

Accomodation

The Danube Delta accommodates everyone, from budget traveller to fancy traveller. I will list the cheapest best place to stay (which i would chose) and the highest reviewed from booking.com (i do not get paid for doing this; i just want to help out 🙂 )

  1. The cheapest guest house -“Casa Maxim”
  2. The highest review score – “Vila Caviar”

What to expect:

First of all, there are a LOT of mosquitoes, so if you plan to visit the area you should get a spray against insects from a pharmacy.

But now let’s talk a bit about the reservation. By taking a boat from Sulina, or any other village you will stay in, you will have the chance to see many species of birds, among them are pelicans, egrets and storks, and plants. Also, the area is very wild (the beach as well), unpopulated and the villages are quite old-fashioned. However, the experience you get will cancel all the ‘negative’ parts of the Delta. Also, try to eat the fish specialities they serve; they are sooo TASTY!
